✨ From Quiet Strength to Compassionate Leader
When Kearston Peterson first joined us in Class 12, she came in quietly. While many in the class were naturally talkative and quick to share, she tended to sit back and observe. She was engaged and listening carefully but preferred to stay in the background. At first glance, you might have missed the depth of what she carried within her.
During our one-on-one conversations, however, it quickly became clear that she possessed something very special: an incredible heart of compassion. Her empathy, her care for others, and her desire to help people succeed stood out immediately. From that point forward, we made it a priority to create opportunities for her to step forward and use those gifts. We wanted her to see what we already saw—that God had placed something powerful inside of her.
Little by little, she began to step into those opportunities. She helped with leadership whenever she could and was always willing to lend a hand wherever it was needed. She reached out to others in our Bridges community and the wider community, offering encouragement and support along the way.
At one point, we discussed some fines she needed to pay off and explored the possibility of community service. Since serving others was already something she naturally did, it became an opportunity not only to meet a requirement but to grow even more. She began helping with childcare and connecting with others who were working toward their goals. What started as a small step soon became something much bigger.
Her commitment and heart for people continued to shine, and eventually, we were able to hire her as a Bridges Resource Coordinator. Today, she supports our graduates as they pursue their goals, offering empathy, encouragement, and practical help along the way. She also serves in Bridges Kids and, like all of our Bridges staff, steps in wherever help is needed to keep things moving forward.
She is a true go-getter with a heart that beats for others. Watching her growth over the years has been a gift, and we have had the privilege of witnessing it from a front-row seat. Most importantly, her story is a testament to the work God can do in a life that is willing to grow, serve, and step forward in faith. We give Him the glory for the transformation we have seen and for the way He continues to use her story and testimony to encourage others who may be just beginning their journey.
Her story reminds us that sometimes the quietest people carry the strongest hearts—and when God brings those gifts into the light, they can make an incredible impact.
